Cowboys and detectives

Dear Simon & Simon producers. Please stop making Jameson Parker take his shirt off. I'll grant you that he's got the physique for it, but it's painfully obvious that he's not the shirtless type. He's approximately brown from the elbows down and the neck up, but everything in between is a quite hilarious shade of lily white. It makes him look like an off-kilter chessboard.

In other news, I have discovered season one of The Young Riders on YouTube! Probably only emeraldarrows knows what I'm talking about there, but it's good, honest. I think only season one ever aired in the UK. I remember looking it up when I first got online a hundred years ago, and being baffled by talk of the Kid and Lou getting married. Presumably he also got a real name then, or maybe she was Mrs Kid? Anyway. I have no knowledge of such things. Season one is brill, anyways. ITV aired it at about four o'clock in the morning in the mid '90s, back when I had forgotten what sleep was, or was trying to forget, so my memory was blurry to say the least. So far it's proving to be just as good as I thought it was though. It has cowboys and shooting. Huzzah.

Um... Yes. That is all, shutting up.

It's so good! And it's such a shame that - aside from Stephen Baldwin popping up in "The Usual Suspects" a million years ago - I think Josh Brolin is the only one that I've ever seen in anything else.

Had a look and I've never seen this before in my life. Where do you find these things? Damn, those are some prettyboys though. Your standards are very high if you're complaining about tan lines.

I don't mind cowboy shows, but I always prefer Richmal Crompton's Outlaws playing at it, to the real thing.

If they aired it on a regular schedule and at the same predictable time you were lucky, though. The things that happened to shows like AtS on UK terrestrial telly - long unexplained gaps, jumping about the schedules, different days with no warning - it's like they were deliberately messing with the fans. I suppose it's what happens when a show gets bargain-binned, they decide it's going nowhere and everything else takes priority.

Oh, it's not really a complaint. Just makes me laugh. He's so pale-skinned, and compared to the usual tanned American beach boy types that you get on these shows, it looks funny.

As to "The Young Riders", I didn't find it - it found me! Very, very late one night on ITV, probably after a "Kojak" or "McCloud" re-run. I do recommend it actually - it won Emmys, so it's properly good. I can only speak for season one though. Here, have a playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL98C71C5C8C5404B7

Britain has been rubbish with American TV shows ever since the 80s, when they had to stop showing imports in primetime. C4's screw up with "Angel" ought to win awards for stupidity though, certainly.

They didn't know what to do with bodies in old TV. I blame the lack of tumblr that would have sharpened them up.

That's a very good point! Somebody should have invented it sooner. "Look-In" magazine could have done those flip book moving image things. The 80s animated gif!
