There was a terrific sky last night. I tried being all photographical, but somebody put a telegraph pole in the way.

The world is very orange. Does the sky use fake tan?

I shall have to endeavour to be somewhere less wiry next time the sky goes nice. Elsewhere, strictly for the purposes of bothering you, and because it's been looking awesome lately, here's rock 'n' roll rose. He's a lot bigger and more impressive than last year:

I love rock 'n' roll rose. It's funky, so it's been named well. Actually, that's not strictly true, is it, as funk and rock 'n' roll aren't the same thing, but yes, I'll shut up now. Here, have a close up:

This one here is called Rachel Louise Moran:

I have no idea who she was, but maybe she had a Jackson Pollock fetish? I bought this one for my mother, as she wanted something interesting for her new garden. It's pretty impressive too, but not as cool as rock 'n' roll. I shall have to investigate now, and see if there's a jazz one, or a jump blues. :)

Elsewhere, Beau Geste finished. Television really has to stop doing that. It's very unsporting. It was excellent, though, and I highly recommend it, although I appreciate that the distinct lack of women will put some of you off. Actually there are a couple; they just don't get to have any fun (unless you consider reading letters from their menfolk to be comparable to Foreign Legion hijinks). Better than getting shot, I suppose. Anyhows, the conclusion was a bit of a jumble - why are last episodes so often such a rush?! It's not like they don't know, setting out, how many episodes they've got! Still, it was a terrific adaptation. I'd like to see it done again some time, as it really is one of the great adventure tales, but it is a bit problematic for the modern viewer, I'll admit. When the natives are storming the fort, one is somewhat inclined to tell the soldiers just to give them their damn country back. Honour and glory are one thing (two, strictly speaking), but nicking somebody else's country is a very silly thing to get yourself shot over.

I don't think I'd have done very well in the 1920s. Hey ho.

I like the wires! Gives it more atmosphere.

I guess it does make for a good silhouette. :)

That rose is amazing! <3 I've never seen one with two colors before, is that common? (I know nothing about roses, tbh)
Aug. 19th, 2015 04:54 pm (UTC)
It's becoming more common, certainly. I don't think there are any that developed naturally that way though - they've all been created by rose breeders.

They look as if they were painted by the Queen's guards in Alice In Wonderland!

Interesting! I don't know much about that book.

The rock and roll rose is super cool:) Just think it could have prevented the War of the Roses!

Why does stuff end? *nods* I hope you're aren't feeling too empty and cursing everything else for not being as good. It's a bit hard to have women being awesome in the Foreign Legion when they're not actually in it. Reminds me of one the intros to the 'Colditz' books where Pat Reid apologises for there being no women in the books.

I hadn't thought that about the Wars Of The Roses! But that's good thinking. :D

There was a woman in the recent ITV "Colditz". I don't remember who she was; I just remember being a bit baffled by what she was doing in the trailer. I'd probably have found out if I'd watched it, but I didn't. Probably cross with it for not having David McCallum in it.

What a woman in 'Colditz'! And I thought Old TV was crazy;p David McCallum's wife was in one ep where he sent her messages in postcards and she used her brains as a crossword whizz to decode them. Colditz is like the Foreign Legion: women only get to read letters.

The telegraph pole provides a nice silhouette; it's doing fine! ;-)

I'm sorry about TV ending. Is it better or worse than those things that don't end and then you wish they had?
Aug. 19th, 2015 04:57 pm (UTC)
Good point! Yes, it's best to leave us wanting more I suppose. Frustrating, but better.

Oh wow ... those roses are beautiful. Esp. Rock'n'roll ... I'll have to investigate if you can buy it here!
Aug. 19th, 2015 04:58 pm (UTC)
I've heard that it's for sale in the States, so it might well be available in the rest of Europe. It's worth looking for - the scent is fabulous.

The rock 'n' roll rose is gorgeous. No wonder you love it!

That sky... Sunset really does look weird at times, but still beautiful.

I googled the Rachel Louise Moran rose. :o(

There are some nice pictures of it, aren't there! It is nice, but it's a bit pink over all for me. Rock 'n' Roll is that bit more red.
