Things that splash and buzz

I tried to conquer the macro addiction, I really did. Okay, no I didn't. And in my defence, oonaseckar did say yes to nature pictures. This was probably just to humour me, but whatever. :)

"I'm ready for my close-up, Mr DeSnail."

I love water snails. I make no apologies for this.

I also love pond skaters. And waterboatmen, but I couldn't find any of them. These are uncooperative little sods, as they don't like to stand still, but sometimes you get lucky.

Although it does help when you catch one nomming on a fly. Yum yum. Don't they have great eyes!

Splish splosh.

Fishy/skater confab.

Hoverfly on a pear blossom. Got lucky here too, as it buggered off as soon as I moved. I couldn't get the very pretty bumble bee to sit still even for a moment. I will get it. One day.

Beetle! I think it must be Ringo, 'cause of the nose. Note gigantic cat hair. They really do get absolutely everywhere.

I hope nobody's scared of insects. These are very friendly ones though, honest.

All the best people do. ;)

Eek ... I don't like bugs really.

Great macro on the camera, though.
What camera is it?

Not nearly as nice-looking as that one! :)

It's a Samsung WB150F.

Oh, I love bug pics! Although I don't keep the bug comms I've signed up to in my usual custom friends group, because they seem to update every ten seconds and I'd never see anything else on my flist.

The eyes on the pond skater are lovely. Like silver pin heads, or the silver balls you get as cake decorations. Very alien!

Beetle! I think it must be Ringo, 'cause of the nose.
Oh, harsh! He's a handsome fella!

Lovely, all of them!

I am casting no nasturtiums on either Ringo or the bug, have no fear! But that is quite the impressive schnozzle on that there beetle. And yes, silver eyes ftw.

Ha! Somehow I think not. :D

Good old Harry and his last-century camera. :)

Steal it. ;) You do have a camera though don't you? Or is it a phone one? Mind you, some of them are bloody good nowadays. My sister takes really good pictures with hers. She's really good with a camera anyway though, which does make a difference I guess.

Yes, I have a Lumix but it's not an SLR which is what i used to learn macro photography.
Apr. 16th, 2015 11:00 pm (UTC)
Lumix, yes, I remember you saying now. Google suggests that it's a very grown up and complicated camera! I much prefer your basic point and click. Expert I am not. :)
Apr. 18th, 2015 12:02 pm (UTC)
Do you have a macro setting on your camera then? I assumed it was a manual camera.

Lumix is really easy you just click the setting you want but i can't find a macro setting.
Apr. 18th, 2015 03:16 pm (UTC)
Yes, there's a macro setting under the focus options. It has its faults, as there's no manual focus facility within it, so you can only focus on what the camera thinks you want to! But I'm a bit rubbish with manual focus anyway, to be honest. I haven't really used a camera since I was a kid. Had my last one when I was fifteen! So I wanted something simple. Like me. :)

The depth of field thing takes a while to get your head around, I agree!
