Robin Sachs (1951-2013)

Sad today to read of the death of Robin Sachs, best known for playing Ethan Rayne in Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Ethan was a magnificent character, the more so for the performance, and in a series filled with things that I liked, he was one of the things that I liked the most. Such a fun nemesis for Giles.

Also known from lots of other sci-fi/fantasy roles of course. He made a number of appearances in Babylon 5 as Na'Kal, the Narn warrior who befriended G'Kar - and also, thanks to the wonders of alien make-up, as several other Narns and Minbari along the way! I last saw him in the most recent series of Torchwood, not in a big role, but it was nice to see him. His father played Lord President Borusa once in Doctor Who, which is cool. There probably aren't that many fathers and sons who have both appeared in the Whoniverse.

A nice guy too, by all accounts. Despite that, I shall forever think of him as a gleefully evil wizard, but somehow I don't think he'd mind.

So sad and comparatively young. Ethan may have been a minor character but he was one of the most memorable ones :(.

Ethan was awesome. :) I'm probably prejudiced, as Giles is my favourite character, and the two of them were so good together. He was at the heart of some great episodes though. Such a shame he wasn't used later on.

Yes, the episodes with Ethan were great. Giles was a fave of mine & I enjoyed having some backstory for him. If only Giles hadn't bogged off to England! Nice house though.
