Pirates! Zombies! Mermaids!

The latest Jack Sparrow trailer, mostly because it's fun. And because, in just his first sentence, Captain Rum-Soaked Lunatic manages to be better than the entire UK government, and its stupid census. And he has a big sword.

Why is Captain Jack Sparrow not running the country?

Pirates! Swords! Anton Lesser! I do still think that Cut-Throat Island is better, and it still bugs me that everybody raves over Pirates Of The Caribbean instead, but nonetheless this does look like fun. Proper fun, like the first installment, before it all got rubbish.

(And it's got Anton Lesser in it).

Plus, did I mention swords?

Should I tell them they are using the wrong Union Jack?

Ouch! Actually I can't say that I'm surprised, but I am rather embarrassed that I didn't realise either!

This is wonderful! Looks like great, irreverent fun with a healthy dash of drama. Blackbeard looks like a wonderful new villain, and Barbossa going over to the crown is absolutely unsurpising given the ease with which he's always switched loyalties before. :D

I also heartily approve of replacing token female Kira Knightly with Penelope Cruz. Not only is Cruz ten times as gorgeous, but she is far less irritating than Knightly.

It also also looks like they basically just threw the kitchen sink at all wall, as far as monsters and creatures goes. I'm looking forward to the mermaids--I hope they're traditional sirens who lure sailors to their deaths. ;P

Anybody is an improvement over Keira Knightley! But yes, this looks like a lot of fun.

Something else that looks like it might be fun, that I just read about in the paper this morning - Hugh Laurie has an album of blues covers coming out. Here's a link to a little information about it, though not a great deal. It's due out in May in the UK.

I knew I was misspelling Knightley's name! I was just too tired and apathetic to look it up that night. Oh well.

Oooh, a Hugh Laurie album. Sounds like fun. Thanks for the heads up!

I think we may have both got half her name right. Pretty sure you spelt the surname right, looking at it again now.

There's another trailer out for Pirates now, btw, and the mermaids look quite interesting.
