Anchors away!

I didn't actually intend for helicopters to become a running theme, but they're fun, let's face it. This time we have a giant pink one, although in actual fact it was the boat that was the star of this show. Riptide was about three private detectives - a lifelong sailor, an allegedly tough inner city type, and a computer geek - who lived together on the former's salvaged yacht. When they weren't sunbathing or being kidnapped at gunpoint, they worked as private detectives, which generally involved flying about in the giant pink helicopter, and trying to stop it from crashing. It was a fun show, and quite blatantly gay at times, and certainly there was a satisfying amount of stuff that got blown up. Murray the computer geek was a pain in the backside, though. I often found myself wishing that the producers had sidelined him, instead of his useless orange robot. Granted it couldn't actually do anything, but at least it didn't have an irritating laugh, and a drastically annoying tendency to overact.

Yet again, this was an odd one. Perry King, who played beach boy Cody, was actually a fairly respected actor at one point, and the writers liked giving him Proper Acting Moments. Consequently, amidst fist fights, gunfire, and things blowing up left, right and centre, there'd suddenly be strangely meaningful interludes, and thoughtful walks on the beach. In tight white shorts and not a lot else, which generally played havoc with the sentiment.

Another one I watched a few of, but I don't think we got many over here.

Talking of robots, do you remember the show about four friends and a super computer? That had a robot in one episode. Again, I think it only went for one season.

"Whiz Kids". I loved that, as it came along just when I got my first home computer. Mine was a ZX Spectrum, though, so it couldn't do nearly as much as theirs could. :)

We got all three seasons of "Riptide" in the UK, but it aired on a Sunday afternoon, so it was probably easily missed if you weren't looking out for it.

We had a ZX81. I got pretty good at programming in Basic.

I had a ZX81. It had annoying, painted on keys, and if you typed too fast it got confused. Programming them was fun, though. I miss doing that sort of thing with a computer.
