Hair and stuff and other stuff and stuff

Spring has sprong. I know because there's primroses out. I only know that they're primroses because my mother points them out every year, and squeaks about primroses, because I am bad at flowers. But they are out, and they are primroses.

See, told you. I went for a walk yesterday, as it was warm and almost sunny (and sometimes sunny and almost warm). And there were primroses and some other flowers. Also a fox:

Fig B. A fox.

But that's not especially springy, necessarily.

Elsewhere, the hair on Remington Steele is getting worse. Not the hair on Remington Steele, as he's learnt that hairstyles are a thing by now, but everybody else on his show is deteriorating rapidly. I'm particularly concerned by the dangerous effects that eightiestasia is having on Laura Holt. The show was very careful to avoid obviously eighties fashions with its stars, in order to keep it looking as undated as possible, and for the most part this works very well. Sometimes, however, the decade creeps up on them, and gooses them from behind.

This is Laura on an ordinary working day:

She's very sensible and practical. However in the episode I watched last night, something terrifying happened.

I'm not sure quite what. She doesn't look entirely happy about it herself. It's like her head is jumping up and down, trying to get attention. Later in the episode, the top bit sits down a bit more, but the sides starting leaping up and down instead.

It's almost like it's attempting semaphore. And it's not alone. I blame one of the guest stars. She's another of those ones with curls that have curls that have curls that have curls, like some peroxide attempt at a Regency wig.

It's got to be somebody's fault, as Mildred's hair is at it as well. Here she is in her first episode, looking perfectly sensible and not-at-all-eighties. Well, except maybe the dress:

(I like this scene. She's telling Steele that he belongs in a Bond movie).

Steele likes this idea. Sorry, that's irrelevant, but like I care. Anyway, that was Mildred in 1983. This is Mildred in 1986:

That is no longer a hairstyle. That is a HAIRSTYLE. With enough mousse involved to terrify Tom Kelly in the second episode of Blake's 7.

Hair aside, it really is a contender for Best Show Ever, though. I can't decide whether I should be watching it all the time, or if it was a much better idea to accidentally forget about it for the best part of six years, so that it's practically new all over again. Either's good. Life is better with Remington Steele in it, folks. Also foxes. I'm undecided about the primroses, but they're nice enough in their way.

The first one is like she's got some kind of whipped dessert on her head. Maybe she has. It was the eighties...

Aw, primroses! I like primroses! And foxes. Nice pics.

The hair, though, is truly scary. You do realise you're probably scaring all potential viewers off?? ;-p

Noooo! I can't scare people away from it! And anyway, there's nice, non-scary stuff there too. There's screencaps from "Steele Away With Me", which is one of the best episodes. Although admittedly I think most of them are best.

The fox gave me a really dirty look when I took its picture. Now I know how I look when my sister tries to take pictures of me.

I'd really forgotten how scary 80s hair was!

What's scary is that fashions tend to recur...

Does this mean that our best hope for saving the world lies with hairdressers? Because I've met a few, and... really not inspiring much confidence.

Certainly there is nothing more terrifying than a nit nurse. The Earth is saved!
