The Musketeers

Coming our way in a couple of weeks on BBC1. Please can it not just be Merlin again, BBC? For me at least, that really didn't work for Atlantis. Or Merlin. My life is seriously lacking in swashbuckle just lately, so I have high hopes for three whole swordsmen, plus Peter Capaldi. D'Artagnan is usually just there to be endured rather than buckleswashed, but you never know.

And don't screw up Aramis. You have Richard Chamberlain to live up to.

It should be good. It has swords and Peter Capaldi. I think it starts in two weeks time, so we'll find out soon enough!

I read an interview (in the Guardian's Guide) that made the right noises...

Every time I see the Beeb's line 'ORIGINAL BRITISH DRAMA' for an adaptation, which is many, many times, I get cross.

Yes, I've raised an eyebrow over that once or twice. I imagine that there's little in this that's truly adapted though. I would be very surprised if it's a straight retelling of the book, but it could happen.

Not being merlin or atlantis is so entirely what I'm hoping for and I know hope is stupid in the current times but all the same. It looks like it might be okay. It really does.

Keep hoping. Your positive vibes may work in our favour. And hello, by the way. :)

If it's not made by the same people as 'Merlin' hopefully it'll be all right. I'll ignore the plot if there is lots of swash being buckled. I wish their clothes were a tad more colourful. The King's Musketeers were blue and white as I recall.

It's not being made by the same people as "Merlin". It's being made by the same people as "Primeval", so if we follow precedent, series one will be everything I could wish for from my television; series two will start off iffy and get worse with every episode; and everything else that follows will be unwatchably awful. So I'm wary. But hey, swords!

Blue and white tabards ring a bell, but I found the books rather dull, so my real knowledge of the story stems from Oliver Reed and Richard Chamberlain, and a cartoon with an annoying theme song.

'Primeval' liked plenty of fights with ancient/future beasties so hopefully they'll be generous with the bust ups or borrow Pierre Pavel's dragons.

Dogtanian? It was pretty faithful to the book in a mashed up way. Most movies stop at the recovery of the Queen's diamonds but Dogtanian carried on. The second series was rotten. They made Richelieu good, boo. I know he's more neutral but I preferred him being bad.

Nooooo! You said the name! I shall have the song stuck in my head for aeons now. *childish flailing*

I don't remember a second series, but by the sounds of it that's a good thing. Richelieu ought to be sly, and very much devoted to his cause. He can't be a straight up good guy.

The theme tune was great! Dogtanian married Juliet and had kids and Richelieu started wearing pink.

Jeepers. Never was a crook laid so low. Suddenly I'm glad there was never a second season of "Visionaries".
