Torchwood: Miracle Day IV

Torchwood excitement in handy bullet points. Also, Doctor Who trailer excitement - less bullet points, more whooping.

(They're not bullet points, actually. I lied. They're just numbers. I couldn't be bothered to do the extra typing for bullets. Nevertheless...)

01. C Thomas Howell!

02. Bill Pullman is still being awesome. Not that this should be a surprise to anybody who's ever seen any of his back catalogue, but still.

03. Jack and Gwen as the world's most annoying couple. :D

04. Just Jack and Gwen in general, really. I love watching them work together. Not that I dislike Rex and... the other one... It's just that we've known Jack and Gwen for longer, and I care about them a whole lot more.

05. C Thomas Howell!

06. The way that PhiCorp are shaping up. Yes, okay, so hints of Jack's background and past dodgy dealings make it all look a bit "Children Of Earth" - and the trailer at the end showing Gwen recording a message for the future, just like she did in "Children Of Earth", doesn't exactly help. They're still interesting, though. Loved the polite chat during Scary Politician's not-death.

Also, PhiCorp is close enough to Psi Corps to make me smile.

07. The confrontation in the computer centre. With C Thomas Howell. Did I mention him already? That was fabulous until Rex turned up and saved the day ruined everything. He shot C Thomas Howell! Bastard. You're not allowed to do that kind of thing. Unless you're Rutger Hauer, possibly; I might let him get away with it. He's got squatter's rights.

08. Yes, I know, Oswald Danes is evil. Obviously. He's such fun, though. I know some critics are saying that people wouldn't choose a child murderer as their figurehead, but people are panicking, and nobody knows what to do. They're lacking leadership, and history shows that the right person stepping into that kind of vacuum can very easily take control. Besides, you've got to like the way he operates.

09. Can we keep C Thomas Howell, please? Okay, shot rather a lot, but not dead for obvious reasons. There's talk of Jack getting a boyfriend at some point. I vote it be C Thomas Howell. Even with the bullet holes. I refuse to allow this to be all that we see of him.

10. It is still kind of slow, though. The bit with Rex's father seemed rather pointless, and somebody please tell Russell T Davies to stop it with the newscaster talking heads. It looked rubbish the first time he did it, three hundred years ago.

And then right before the show, there was a Doctor Who trailer! Yes, the rest of the world probably has seen it thirty times already, but I don't watch television except when I do. There was stuff, and there was other stuff, and there was Rory, and there was stuff and stuff and a bit more stuff. But!

Pteranodons! Giant prehistoric flappy thing alert! Sorry Jack, but that was potentially better than you, and C Thomas Howell, and all the exciting confrontations you manage to come up with. I just hope the episode is good. They already gave me rubbish pirates this season. They can't give me rubbish flying reptiles as well. Right?

Just don't think this lets you off, BBC. I still want my giant prehistoric flappy thing back in Torchwood. And the secret underground base. And the magic paving slab. I miss the magic paving slab.

*sorrowful pause for reflection*

PS: C Thomas Howell!

Also, Jack and Gwen being fabulously annoying:

And then in Rather Less Happy Mode:

That was fun. I think I'd like another episode now please.

10. It is still kind of slow, though.

I agree with this. I've had the feeling since the beginning that they have the same amount of plot as CoE, but they are spreading it over twice the episodes. It makes the lack of answers to things like, who is behind the miracle, and who is The Triangle, very frustrating.

I had this same depressing thought that they might have just rehashed the plot for CoE. Hope not as that was brilliant TV. (I know half the fandom will disagree with me)

Need to look up C Thomas Howell, as I don't know what else he has done.

Still, I am enjoying Torchwood, and there are some very funny moments.

C Thomas Howell is mostly known for his eighties movies, most notably "The Outsiders", but also "The Hitcher". It's always rather a surprise to see that he's not a kid anymore! ;)
